Xiaomi Has No Plans To Release A 4-Inch Phone, Says Lei Jun

As many of you know, Xiaomi had released quite a few smartphones this year, from their affordable Redmi-branded phones, all the way to flagship Mi 5, Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus handsets. The latest device Xiaomi had announced is the Mi Max Prime, which is essentially a more powerful variant of their Mi Max phablet rebranded for the Indian smartphone market. That being said, we’ve seen quite a few rumors and leaks out there saying that Xiaomi could release a very compact 4-inch smartphone at some point in the near future, and some rumors have even been reporting that it could be a high-end device. Well, it seems like that won’t happen, at least not in the near future, read on.

Xiaomi had conducted a poll quite recently, in order to see whether people are interested in a 4-inch device, or perhaps they prefer larger form factors. Interestingly enough, 53% of those who voted said that they would be interested in a 4-inch device, which was quite surprising. Well, despite that fact, the company’s CEO, Lei Jun, said through his official Weibo (Chinese social media) page that the company has no plans to manufacture a smartphone smaller than 5-inches (at least not at the moment), though he did not specify whether he’s talking about a high-end phone or not, which basically means we won’t see a Xiaomi-branded smartphone smaller than 5-inches at all, at least not in the near future. Now, as some of you know, Apple had released the iPhone SE earlier this year, a 4-inch handset, so rumors suggested that Xiaomi’s 4-inch device could rival Apple’s offering, but as you can see, Xiaomi has no plans to make that happen.

The company had recently announced their new flagship handsets, the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus (which sport 5.15-inch and 5.5-inch displays, respectively), while we’re also expecting them to release their flagship phablet, the Mi Note 2 soon. Xiaomi will probably introduce this handset before the end of this month, or perhaps next month, but we’re expecting it to land soon following tons of leaked material we’ve seen in the last couple of weeks. That is more or less it, stay tuned.
