According to Evleaks, it appears that LG has decided to remove the secondary display from the upcoming LG V30. Now it’s important to note that while Evleaks is usually on top of things and is usually correct with his leaks and such, it is still very early in the development cycle of the LG V30. After all, the LG V20 just launched last month in the US and South Korea. So we still have close to a year before the LG V30 is expected to actually debut. Now, Evleaks hasn’t said much just yet, but he did note that he does have renders of the LG V30, but won’t be sharing them just yet. It appears that he has no clue what the company will be replacing that secondary display (also referred to as the ticker display) with on the LG V30.
LG launched the V series last year with the LG V10, and then continued it with the LG V20 this year. It has been a pretty under-appreciated series of smartphones. Seeing as their G series is their true flagship, the V series hasn’t gotten the attention it should have. A big part of this is the fact that it hasn’t been launched in most countries, LG has mostly kept it in the US and South Korea, their two biggest markets, so it does make a bit of sense, but it hasn’t sold as well as it could have, if it had launched in Europe. The LG V20 (and the V10) are their “large” smartphones. The feature 5.7-inch displays, but do have a pretty heavy focus on the audio features. In fact the LG V20 actually has a quad DAC, which provides some of the best audio that any smartphone has ever had.
So no more secondary display on the LG V30, a bit disappointing, but it will be interesting to see what they put on the LG V30 to replace it. The new smartphone isn’t expected to be released until around September 2017, so there’s time for LG to change their mind and bring the ticker display back, if they think that is the right choice.
