Render Mock Up Sows Potential Moto X 2017 Design

This year has been an interesting one for the Moto team, who instead of releasing a new series of the Moto X, launched the Moto Z family in addition to the Moto G4 family of devices. While many thought of this situation as an ending for the Moto X and any future devices to sport the name. Having said that, it is highly likely that a new Moto X is on the way thanks to the recently leaked Lenovo device roadmap for 2017. There’s also been no confirmation that the Moto Z is a Moto X replacement. Rather, the Moto Z has been touted as simply a new device on the Moto family of products. This leaves an opportunity for Moto X devices to be launched in the future and this mocked up render from Tech Droider gives an idea of what a 2017 Moto X phone could look like if it were to be released.

While there is no actual way to know if the new Moto X will carry the same design as the render, the render does have some very similar design elements that can be found on the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, and Moto Z Play, such as the large circular camera module towards the top of the device on the back, suggesting that the new Moto X will not stray too far from the design of Moto’s latest flagship phone. Unlike the Moto Z, though, this device appears to use a completely different material and instead of being made of glass on the back, it appears that the back of the phone may be made of some kind of metal material.

The top and bottom of the phone could potentially be made of some kind of plastic (perhaps a soft touch plastic) material to give the phone a more ruggedized build. If that’s the case, then it wouldn’t be too unlike what LG has done with the V20, which utilizes a more rugged plastic for the top and bottom edges of the phone to protect the corners against drops, while the rest of the phone’s frame and back are made of metal for a more premium look and feel. For now, there is no confirmation on the design of the phone, and likely won’t be until sometime in the beginning of next year.
