Samsung’s Galaxy S7 may be the flagship smartphone from the company and in the US market it usually commands the most attention, but that doesn’t mean that other Samsung devices should be dismissed if they end up being made available in the US. Take for example, the Galaxy J7 Prime, which is a phone that has been on sale in the Indian market as of earlier this year, as well as the Vietnamese market, and has now made its way to the US via Amazon. It should be noted that this is not an official US version of the phone, rather it is a DUAL SIM and factory unlocked model, which means there will be some limitations in regards to compatibility.
That said, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime will work on GSM networks in the US, which means T-Mobile, AT&T, Metro PCS, Cricket, and the like, and will support some US LTE bands such as 4G LTE bands 2 and 4, so you won’t be stuck on 3G only. While this is certainly not Samsung’s most high-end phone, it does come with some rather respectable hardware specifications considering the price, which begins with features like an octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage that’s expandable with support up to 256GB, and a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device. Just last year these would have been specs that would normally have been reserved for devices in the higher mid-tier and the top-tier ranges, but Samsung is offering them on the Galaxy J7 Prime which is now available for under $290.
Aside from the few specs listed above, the Galaxy J7 Prime also features an entirely metal body for the outer shell instead of a polycarbonate like you would normally see on a device in this price range. You’ll also find a Full HD 5.5-inch display, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a capable 3,300mAh battery to keep the device powered on throughout the day. On top of all that, the phone is DUAL SIM compatible which means it can carry two SIM cards in it at once, and this makes it a perfect device for anyone who travels. It’s also running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow so the software is fairly up to date. All told, this isn’t a bad little option for consumers who want something less expensive, but don’t want to forfeit too much in the way of hardware and device quality.
