Top 10: Android News Stories – November 6th, 2016

Lots has happened this past week in the world of Android. There were a few new device announcements and Google finally unveiled the date that consumers will be able to officially buy the Daydream View headset. If you’ve not heard of the Daydream View, it’s Google’s first Daydream VR headset, and it’s launching (as well as shipping to those who pre-ordered it) on November 10th which is this coming Thursday. The headset will sell for $79 and it’ll be available from the Google Store as well as Verizon. When it comes to announcements, we mentioned that there were a few new devices that were unveiled this past week, and this includes devices from Huawei as well as Xiaomi. Xiaomi announced the Redmi 4, the Redmi 4 Prime, and the Redmi 4A. In regards to Huawei, there were two new phone announcements, although they’re really just two variations of the same phone, which are the Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Porsche Design Edition. Huawei also announced a new fitness tracker called the Huawei Fit, which looks more like a smartwatch than a tracker thanks to its round display.

Speaking of round displays, Samsung’s Gear S3 is nearing its official launch date after having been announced back at Samsung’s Unpacked event during IFA in September. Starting from today, U.S. consumers who are interested in grabbing Samsung’s latest smartwatch can do through a number of retailers, including Amazon, by placing their pre-orders for either the Classic or Frontier models, with the launch happening later this month on November 18th.
