Xiaomi has been quite busy throughout this year, the company had introduced quite a few smartphones in 2016, ranging from their affordable Redmi-branded phones, all the way to the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mi MIX which had been introduced quite recently as the company’s new flagship phablets. That being said, aside from phones and a number of other smart gadgets, this China-based company is also developing their own software, as some of you might know. Xiaomi had also introduced the 8th iteration of their Android-based MIUI OS this year, and it’s called MIUI 8.
Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 OS had already been pushed to a number of devices in the company’s lineup, and some phone actually already ship with this OS. Having that in mind, MIUI 8 is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and people have been wondering when will MIUI 9 land. Well, those of you who are waiting for MIUI 9 to arrive will be glad to hear that Xiaomi had officially kicked off the project, though chances are that they’ve been working on it for a while now, at least according to rumors. In any case, according to sources from Xiaomi’s headquarters, the company has now officially kicked off this project (as you can see in the images down below), though we still do now know when can we expect this OS to land. Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 OS had started rolling out only a couple of months ago, so it could be a while until MIUI 9 gets released, even though some sources are suggesting that we’ll see it hit the market sooner than expected. In any case, we do expect MIUI 9 beta version to land in Q1 2017, but we’ll see if that’s realistic or not.
So, what can we expect in MIUI 9? Well, Xiaomi has been refining MIUI OS for quite some time now, MIUI 8 is a huge change from MIUI 7, at least in the design department. MIUI 8 looks quite flat actually, and many consumers have welcomed this change, though the OS still needs some work, as there are some kinks to work out. We do expect that Xiaomi will clean up the UI even further, and we can also expect a number of features from Android 7.0 Nougat, of course.
