This year’s Galaxy Beta Program was launched by Samsung earlier this Fall, and follows in the footsteps of the same beta for when Android 6.0 Marshmallow was first released last year. Back then, Samsung allowed Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users from selected regions to join the program so that they may be able to get a taste of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Fast forward to this year, the Galaxy Beta Program is designed so that select Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users may get a taste of the latest version of Android, which is Android 7.0 Nougat. Samsung has been constantly rolling out updates to participants in the program and this time around, a fifth update has been pushed out by the company, which comes after the fourth update was rolled out less than a week back.
The latest update comes with the firmware version G935FXXU1ZPLN for the Galaxy S7 Edge and the update being sent out will solve the intermittent rebooting issue which is being experienced by a handful of users in the program. On top of that, the new beta comes with a new feature for the lockscreen, whereby transparency for notifications on the lock screen has been implemented. With this new feature, you will be able to see your wallpaper in the background even when you receive multiple notifications at any given time. SamMobile has also pointed out that users of the smaller Galaxy S7 who aren’t in the program are also receiving an update which will provide this feature, so if you are a Galaxy S7 user, do look out for it in your updates. Other than that, the update comes with the regular bug fix and stability has also been improved. The new beta is currently being sent out to participants of the Galaxy Beta Program residing in South Korea and in the UK.
All eligible devices should be receiving the update which measures 301MB in size, in the coming days, and users will be prompted to update their device via notification. However, if you haven’t received the notification prompting you to download the update, you can head over to Settings and tap on About Device. From there, select Software Update in the options and you will be able to download it manually.
