Facebook Brings Moments Feature To The Web For All

Facebook has just launched its Moments feature for the web in a lightweight version for all users, after having briefly tested it in a limited capacity earlier this year. While the lightweight web version of this app that was primarily designed in its full form for mobile devices on Android and iOS, users will begin to see the light version of the feature show up on the main page when they open up Facebook. It will be located under the list of “favorites” content that sits on the left side of the web page, although clicking on it may not bring up the light web version of the service for anyone just yet, and it may take some time before it’s fully functional for all users.

If it is working for you, what you should see when you click on it are private photo albums that have been shared by your friends and family. It seems Facebook’s intention with adding a web version of the app, though, is to only allow users to view photos in the albums that are shared. Any and all of the interaction that happens with those photos, whether it be leaving a comment on them or liking them, has to be done through app, and naturally, uploading and sharing your own photos in Moments has to be done through the app as well.

With this being the case, anyone who is interested in getting the full potential out of Moments will still need to have the app installed on their device, which is likely what Facebook wants, although they also likely want to provide some capability for users to see the photos in these albums on the web as the app may not always be readily available. Still, it seems Facebook’s main focus is getting people interested in the app version which becomes a little more evident with the promotion of the app by way of a “get the app” button in the top right corner of the page. When or if Facebook plans to add other basic functions to the web version of Moments is unclear, but it does make sense for Facebook to implement Moments on the web in this way if they’re simply trying to usher more users into the app.
