LG To Unveil PJ9 Levitating Bluetooth Speaker At CES

LG Electronics is set to attend the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2017) in Last Vegas early next year, and the company already confirmed a handful of smartphones which will be presented during the event, including the new LG K series. However, LG has more to show besides smartphones, and last weekend the company announced a levitating Bluetooth speaker called the LG PJ9, which will also make its way to the show floor in January.

The market for Bluetooth speakers seems to be growing and several other companies before LG have already explored the concept of a levitating speaker. Now it’s LG’s turn to do the same and the result is a Bluetooth speaker with up to 10-hours battery life and two main elements, including a woofer station and a levitating unit held up in the air through magnetic force. Needless to say, the LG PJ9 is a very different product compared to LG’s Portable Speaker powered by Bluetooth, introduced in June in collaboration with JonOne. The product at hand offers up to 10 hours battery life, and interestingly enough, once the unit begins to drain the levitating speaker starts descending until it touches the woofer station base, readying for wireless recharging. The upper speaker emits sound in 360 degrees and features two passive radiators for improved sound combined with the woofer station, and also boasts IP X7 waterproofing, which gives it the ability to survive underwater for up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1 meter.

At the moment, pricing and release date details for the LG PJ9 Bluetooth are missing, but the speaker will be fully unveiled at CES 2017 and LG Electronics should reveal more about the product’s availability then. LG will also showcase a handful of smartphones at the event, including the new LG K3, LK4, K8 and LG K10, as well as the LG Stylus 3 equipped with an Octa-core MediaTek MT6750 SoC and 3 GB of RAM. In any case, LG hopes that the “eye-catching design” of the upcoming PJ9 Bluetooth speaker will “cause a blast in the market” but only time will tell if this is going to be the case. While Bluetooth speakers seem to have their place on the market, smart speakers such as Google Home and Amazon Echo seem to gain more attention, at least from Android consumers.
