New Daydream View Colors Launch With The Next Round of Apps

Google’s fledgling VR platform, Daydream, is about to get a lot more interesting. Today Google is launching a slew of new apps and games to enjoy with the Daydream View headset. For anyone looking to dive into Google’s vision for VR, there’s no better time than now to do so as Google will not only be launching new games and apps to enjoy, but they’re also launching the Crimson and Snow color variations for Daydream View. The new colors of the headset will be available in the US, the UK, and in Australia through the Google Store. As for the new content, there are six total apps to dig into, 5 of them being games, making for a nice little growing list of entertainment to immerse yourself in.

One of the new apps launching today is HBO Now, which Google initially highlighted would be launching for Daydream back during Google I/O when they first announced the platform. This is also in addition to HBO GO VR which launched not too long ago. If you’ve used the HBO GO VR app, the interface for it is exactly the same as the design for HBO Now VR so you should be familiar with using it and how to access the content. If you’re more into games, Google’s got your number here too, as they’re launching five new games today, two of which are highly anticipated titles that were advertised at Google I/O as well. These two games are Gunjack 2: End of Shift, and Need For Speed No Limits.

While these are games that you install on your smartphone, playing them in VR with the kind of quality that’s delivered is simply stunning, and the cost of the games reflects this, as both are set at a heftier price tag than what’s currently available for most of the other games, with Gunjack 2 costing players $12.99, and Need For Speed No Limits costing a bit more at $19.99. While the cost of Need For Speed might seem a bit high, and it is, if you’re used to paying for some of the games that Square Enix has published on the Play Store, then you’re likely used to this price. The good news if you’re looking for something new and a little bit more affordable, is that the rest of the games aren’t quite as much. Alongside HBO Now, Gunjack 2, and Need For Speed No Limits, there’s also a new game called Underworld Overlord on offer for $4.99. With this particular game the idea is to defend your dungeon of sorts, and the gameplay feels a lot like EA’s Dungeon Keeper, although the visuals here are quite obviously a bit more engaging.

If that doesn’t strike your fancy there’s also Wands for $5.99, and this game caters more to those who are looking for a multiplayer experience. In Wands, you take on the role of a character called a “Wielder,” and you’ll be battling it out against other players for supremacy. Think first person shooter, but with wands that you use to cast spells. In the beginning you’re given the option to select your wand of which there are a few different types, although you have to unlock the others before you can actually use them. You also imbue your wand with magical abilities and spells which act as your attacks. Gameplay feels fast paced and things certainly get heated and action-packed if you enjoy facing off against other players in these types of games. Lastly, the final offering is the one and only option for those that want more of a haunting experience. Layers of Fear is a horror game from Aspyr Media where you’ll get to explore a haunted mansion belonging to an insane painter. This game will set you back $9.99, but will likely be worth if you enjoy a good scare. All of these apps are available to download from the Play Store as of today both through the desktop and Android portals, and via the Daydream interface when wearing the Daydream View headset.
