There is nothing like getting a major OS upgrade and Rogers has been pushing them out – earlier this week the LG G5 received its Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade, and now we are learning that the Moto Z series of devices are receiving theirs today. Rogers had them scheduled as ‘Available Now, 2’ but our source reached out to the users via Twitter to verify if anybody was indeed getting their updates and a couple of users Tweeted back that they had received their Nougat upgrade.
If you haven’t received your update yet, remember they do it on a rolling basis, and your may not show up right away along with others. You can always try and ‘force’ the download by going to Settings -> System updates -> Check for system update and see if that will prompt you to download the new Android Nougat. So far, Rogers is the only one that is verified as to sending out the Nougat upgrade, even though Telus had done so on December 19th as their roll out date for the Moto Z devices. It is nice to see that even after Lenovo’s takeover of Motorola Mobility that the updates are still coming out relatively quickly. Rogers has the update for the HTC One M9 and the Moto G4 Plus as ‘Coming Soon.’
The Android 7.0 Nougat update brings many behind the scenes improvements and optimizations. The user will notice many new features as well – especially the ‘Multi-Window’ multitasking, the Doze Mode feature that used to take 30 minutes to activate is now working almost as soon as you turn off your phone’s display, and there is a big difference with the notifications screen where you can access emails directly from the shade. The Moto Z line of smartphones has a model and price for everyone. You can pick yourself up a Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, and an exclusive Verizon model, the Moto Z Force Droid. All models allow you to attach Moto Mods to the back of the device. They are held on by magnets and steadied by the protruding camera assembly. You can add a 2200mAh battery or even one with wireless charging. Slap on a pair of JBL speakers to entertain or a Hasselblad camera with 10X optical zoom. You can even turn your Moto Z into a wall projector.
