Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus To Boast A 6-Inch Display

The Galaxy S8 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2017, and as such, it’s also a common subject of numerous industry rumors. Following the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, many industry experts are speculating that Samsung will drop the Note lineup for the time being and will instead opt to implement most of its core features into the larger variant of the Galaxy S8. Furthermore, several sources have previously claimed that both Galaxy S8 devices will feature a curved display. This report suggests Samsung won’t launch a device called the Galaxy S8 Edge, but will instead go with something along the lines of the Galaxy S8 Plus.

Regardless of what the bigger variant of Samsung’s upcoming flagship is going to be called, sources from South Korea are now claiming that the said device will feature a 6-inch display, while the standard variant will come packed with a 5-inch screen. Namely, a recent report originating from the Far East states Samsung already contacted its suppliers over parts for the Galaxy S8 and allegedly ordered production of 6-inch displays. The production of displays for both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus is reportedly slated to start in January. Furthermore, the very same sources are claiming that Samsung is looking to eliminate the physical home button from its upcoming flagship in an effort to reduce the size of its bezels and leave more room for the screen. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this claim as an almost identical report emerged earlier this month. The removal of the physical home button should allow Samsung to deliver a 6-inch device that isn’t significantly larger than the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 7. For added context, the said phablet is 153.5 x 73.9 x 7.9 mm in size.

Last but not least, recently revealed information suggests Samsung still hasn’t decided whether to ditch the 3.5mm audio jack with the Galaxy S8 as the Seoul-based company is reportedly still testing several different prototypes of the device. In any case, we should know more come spring, as Samsung is rumored to officially unveil the Galaxy S8 at an exclusive New York event in April. In the meantime, expect a lot more related rumors to pop up.
