The next generation of the Galaxy A series (2017) of Samsung’s mid-range smartphones is debuting on January 5th. On Wednesday, Samsung Malaysia sent out invitations for a press event scheduled for next Thursday, explicitly stating how the presser in Kuala Lumpur will be held for the purposes of showcasing all of the new Galaxy A devices. While the event will be hosted by the Malaysian division of Samsung in the capital of the Southeastern Asian country, it’s possible that January 5th will also mark the global launch of Samsung’s upcoming mid-range devices. The Seoul-based phone maker is expected to use this opportunity to debut the new Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and the Galaxy A7. The invitation itself can be seen below.
Just yesterday, this very same division of Samsung implied that the third generation of the Galaxy A lineup will be water resistant. Seeing how CES 2017 is starting only a few hours after the Malaysian Galaxy A unveil takes place, it’s also possible that Samsung will showcase all three of its new devices in Las Vegas next week. As the second generation of the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and the Galaxy A7 launched worldwide just over a year ago, the timing of this Kuala Lumpur event seems just about right.
The new devices are expected to sport mid-range specs and affordable price tags, much like their predecessors. The third generation of the Galaxy A5 is rumored to boast a 5.2-inch display featuring a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and should be powered by an Exynos 7880 system-on-chip and 3GB of RAM. Other rumored features include 16GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear shooter, and a 7-megapixel front one. The device will be priced at around $400, while the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A7 should offer a slight downgrade and upgrade on its specs, respectively. Rumors of the third generation of the Galaxy A series have been circulating the industry for months now, but Samsung reportedly decided to push back the release of its three new mid-rangers to 2017 for unknown reasons. Regardless of that turn of events, consumers on the lookout for a new device offering good value for money will probably want to see what Samsung will be offering in January.
