Samsung has a wide range of smartphones in its product portfolio, with its “Galaxy S” and “Galaxy Note” flagship series being its most popular lineups. However, the South Korean company doesn’t only cater to the high-end smartphone market, but it also also has smartphones in the mid-range and budget sector. The “Galaxy A” range contains devices for the mid-range market while the “Galaxy J” lineup consists of devices for those looking for a budget handset. While Samsung used to have a bad reputation in the past for not regularly pushing out updates to its handsets, this all changed when the company announced that it would be consistently updating the software of its devices ever since the Samsung Galaxy S6 was released.
Now, Samsung has confirmed with tech website SamMobile that it will be upgrading its 2016 Galaxy A smartphones to Android 7.0 Nougat. The first generation of Galaxy A smartphones happen to be the only non-flagship smartphone lineup in Samsung’s range of devices to have received two Android upgrades which were major, and it seems like Samsung is hoping to continue its track record with its 2016 series. However, no official date has been set by Samsung for the Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade to take place, but it will take time for the company to roll out the update to its many devices, and it is likely that the update will only begin its rollout sometime in the second quarter of 2017. For those who don’t know, the Galaxy A lineup consists of six devices, including the Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy A5, Samsung Galaxy A7, Samsung Galaxy A8, Samsung Galaxy A9 and the Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro. It should also be noted that the Galaxy A8 and the Galaxy A9 Pro came out of the box with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, while the rest of the devices in the lineup came with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Samsung is also gearing up to release Android 7.0 Nougat for its flagship devices, including its Galaxy S6 smartphones, the Galaxy Note 5, the Galaxy Tab S2, and its Galaxy S7 devices. It has also started its Galaxy Beta Program so that users of any Galaxy S7 device will be able to get a taste of the beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat. However, the program is only available in select regions and spaces are also limited.
