It has been a long time coming – last year’s Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have all received their Nougat loving and of course, the new Google Pixel models have all had their 7.1.1 update – but the Nexus 6 from 2014 has been using only Android 7.0 that it received in October. We are happy to inform you that both the full system image and over-the-air (OTA) update forms are now available. Check out our source link to get to the images to download, as it may be a while before the actual OTA updates roll out to your phone. The Nexus 6 is past the two years of guaranteed support, so Google took its good old time with the update, especially now that they are on their Pixel craze.
The Nexus 6 was a real surprise when it came out, not only because of the size of its display but also because of the size of the price. Up until this time, the Nexus devices sported smaller displays with mid-range specifications and a $350 price tag. This pricing allowed anybody to purchase one outright through the Google store. However, Google took a different path with the Nexus 6 by including a 6-inch display and a $650 price tag – a price so high that Google also sold the Nexus 6 through the carriers so customers could make payments or get it on a two-year contract for $199. Google finally decided it wanted to compete with their archrival and they needed the specs to accomplish that task.
The Nexus 6 sports a 6-inch Quad HD AMOLED display with 493 pixels-per-inch (PPI.) For the processor, they tapped into the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core. It is pushing 3GB of RAM, and you have a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage. The Nexus 6 was the first Nexus device to take photos seriously and included a 13MP primary camera with autofocus, a dual-colored LED flash ring that encircles the camera lens, and OIS. The front-facing camera (FFC) is 2MP for selfies and video chatting. The non-removable battery is a respectable 3220mAh that has wireless charging and should last you through an entire day. It also has dual front-facing stereo speakers, Motorola’s Turbo Charger, and a water resistant nano-coating.
