Earlier today and via a joint press announcement, Seiki, Westinghouse Electronics and Elements Electronics announced that they were releasing some new 4K Ultra HD TVs to the market in 2017. However, these are not your ordinary TV sets as in addition to their ultra high-definition resolution, these TVs also come equipped with Amazon Fire TV pre-installed.
Much like how a number of TV manufacturers have opted for Android TV as their operating system, or how TCL and others look towards Roku, these particular models will come with Fire TV OS as their predominant operating system. Which in addition to providing the numerous benefits that are on offer from an app-oriented interface like Fire TV, these sets will also be able to make use of Amazon’s Alexa service through the TVs respective voice remote controls. Which also means the added benefits that are on offer with Alexa’s skills and other IoT-related capabilities. Although details as to how far Alexa’s reach will be through these capabilities has yet to be confirmed.
As part of the original announcement, it was confirmed that the manufacturers in question would be showcasing their TVs at this year’s CES 2017 event in Las Vegas. Speaking of which we were able to catch up with Elements Electronics at CES and take a look at their particular Amazon Fire TV Edition 4K Ultra HD Smart TV. In terms of availability and pricing, as of now, there are no firm details on when this (or the other announced manufacturer options) will become available to buy. Although it stands to reason that they will be available to buy directly from Amazon and most likely, from a number of other high-profile retailers as well. It is also currently understood that all of the branded TVs will be available in a variety of sizes including 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch. Although, it is unclear if there are any notable differences between the models, other than their size. For reference, the TV in the images below is the 55-inch model.
