Samsung is no stranger to Chromebooks as they have at least a few models to speak of, but this year at CES they just revealed their latest Chromebooks to date, which just a month or two ago was believed to be just one – the Chromebook Pro. On the contrary, though, Samsung took the stage of their press conference on the evening of January 4th and officially announced not only the Chromebook Pro, but also the Chromebook Plus, a very similar model Chromebook yet slightly less powerful due to the different processor. However, this means that it’s likely coming with a lower cost at $449, and we only say likely as there has so far been no mention of what the Chromebook Pro will cost. Today we were able to get some hands-on time with both devices, and while we’ve already gone over what this device looks like a gallery, this video hands-on shows what the device is like in action.
Both Chromebooks are mostly the same as mentioned above, save the computing hardware which amounts to a mobile chip processor for the Chromebook Plus and 3GB of RAM to go along with with, while the Chromebook Pro features a 6th generation Intel Core m3 processor with 4GB of RAM, which is what will surely cause the increase in price for the Pro model even though all of the other hardware and features are identical, right down to the screen size and resolution, as well as the amount of ports (two USB Type-C ports as well as a media reader and a 3.5mm audio port) that have been used for the device.
Processor and RAM aside, the stylus pen that comes integrated will lend itself well to a number of applications and uses, depending on how you personally use your laptop. Those that don’t necessarily care about having a slightly more powerful version of the Chrome OS laptop can pre-order the Chromebook Plus as of now through Samsung’s own website as well as on Amazon. While both the Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro only come in the one color, silver, the stylish use of a metal design body and its thin profile will likely win over anyone that prefers to have a different colored laptop.
