It seems like the Moto G5 Play just surfaced on the FCC. The Moto XT1672 popped up quite recently in an FCC listing, and it seems like that is the upcoming Moto G5, but according to the source, that’s not the case. It seems like the Moto XT1670, XT1671 XT1672, XT1675, XT1676 and XT1677 all got certified by the FCC, and they’re all variants of the Moto G5 Play, and not the Moto G5, as pretty much everyone initially thought.
Now, FCC documents reveal that the Moto G5 Play will sport a 5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, while the device will be fueled by the Snapdragon 430 64-bit octa-core processor, which is Qualcomm’s entry-level SoC. In addition to that, listings also mention that this device will sport a 2,800mAH battery with no quick charging, and Android 7.0 Nougat will come pre-installed on the Moto G5 Play. The Moto G4 Play was introduced back in May last year, which means that its successor will almost certainly land in the first half of this year, though we still don’t know when exactly. If the company plans to stick to their release schedule, however, we’ll get to see the Moto G5 Play announced in May this year. Now, according to FCC documents, Moto G5 Play will come in both 2GB and 3GB RAM variants with 16GB and 32GB of storage, respectively. Neither of these Moto G5 Play variants will sport NFC, which was to be expected as the Moto G5 Play will be a budget smartphone.
That is pretty much all the Moto G5 Play info that we have a the moment, though we’re sure more info will surface in the coming weeks. We still don’t know what will the Moto G5 Play look like, but chances are it will resemble the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Play, neither of which have been announced just yet. Chances are all of those three Moto G5 devices will get announced within the same month, and perhaps even at the same time, we’ll see. We also know that the Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5 Play will all be quite affordable, though the Moto G5 Play will be more affordable than the other two models, that’s for sure.
