NVIDIA’s SHIELD Tablet is weeks away from the Nougat update according to a response in the comments of a post from the NVIDIA SHIELD Hub profile on Google+. The update not only promises to introduce Android 7.0 Nougat which comes along with its own set of perks like multi-window and more, but it should also introduce a few new features to the tablet that are specific to NVIDIA’s crop of SHIELD devices. The NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV unit for example, will be getting a brand new app for accessing all the games that are specific to that platform with an app called NVIDIA Games, and in it users will find all the exclusive games for SHIELD as well as those which can be streamed using GeForce NOW. There’s no confirmation that the SHIELD Tablet and the SHIELD Tablet K1 will get this app as well, but NVIDIA has kept things pretty streamlined across their SHIELD devices, so it’s highly likely to make the jump to both versions of the tablet.
While there was no exact dates given for the planned update to Android 7.0 Nougat for the SHIELD Tablet or the SHIELD Tablet K1, the response from NVIDIA did state that it was happening in a few weeks, so it’s more than likely due to happen in early February or at the very end of this month, which means that users of both tablets will just have to be patient for a little bit longer as a few weeks isn’t really too far away. It’s also worth noting that NVIDIA does not mention that both versions of the SHIELD Tablet will be updated to the new software at the same time, so it’s possible that the newer K1 model could be getting the update first.
If both SHIELD tablets do get the update at the same time, then that means thy’re really only a couple of weeks behind the original model of the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV, as it’s scheduled to get the bump to Android 7.0 Nougat next week with the new model already on board with the new software. NVIDIA’s new SHIELD Android TV also just recently went on sale as of yesterday, which means that users who purchase one will be among the first of those who own an NVIDIA Android device to get their hands on Nougat’s software and features.
