Numerous rumors surrounding LG’s return to the Android Wear device market have been circulating recently, but today the first images of its new smartwatches seem to have appeared. LG’s Android Wear presence dates back to the launch of the original version of the wearable OS, with the launch of the original LG G Watch. The company’s most recently launched smartwatch was the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, though this was announced over a year ago. Now, though, with the upcoming release of Android Wear 2.0 which will bring a number of improvements to the OS, it appears LG has decided to re-enter the smartwatch market with not one, but two new smartwatches. Rumored to be called the LG Watch Sport and Watch Style, it appears the wearables will have a refined design that takes inspiration from both the original and 2nd generation Watch Urbane models.
The smartwatches, both of which carry circular displays and a rotating crown in order to navigate the UI, differ in both size and target market. The larger of the two is the sportier-looking LG Watch Sport, expected to come with a range of silicone rubber straps, though there is also the possibility that LG could offer leather straps as well. The wearable is expected to sport a 1.38-inch display with a 480 x 480 resolution, as well as 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and a 430mAh battery. Also on the rumored specs list is water-resistance, GPS, a heart-rate monitor and LTE connectivity. Moving on to the second watch, which is said to feature a smaller 1.2-inch display with a 360 x 360 resolution, it is expected to be called the LG Watch Style, and is rumored to feature 512MB of RAM, a significantly smaller 240mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage and water-resistance.
With the Android Wear 2.0 announcement expected to take place in the second week of February, it shouldn’t be too long before the final specs and customization options are confirmed for the pair of watches, in addition to the official design of each model of smartwatch. Nonetheless, with the wearables rumored to have been co-engineered with Google, these will likely give consumers a good idea of what to expected from future Android Wear watches, not just LG-branded ones. Until the official release, though, more leaks are likely to appear.
