You’ll be able to watch Super Bowl 51 in VR with FOX Sports, as the broadcast network will be making the game available to view through their FOX Sports VR application this coming Sunday. Users will be able to watch the game through FOX Sports VR in one of three different ways, which includes the use of the Samsung Gear VR headset, Google Cardboard, or just on a smartphone screen using the app itself. For users that choose to watch the game through the app on a smartphone screen, the game will be watchable as a 360-degree video so moving your phone screen around towards different directions should allow you to view different angles of the game.
While the app itself is free to download and install from the Play Store, users will need to have a cable subscription to turn the game on which still means that users won’t be able to watch it for free, at least not from the comfort of their own home through official methods. That being said, those who have a cable subscription and are planning on watching the game may just decide to turn on the TV and watch the game that way, which will probably be the preferred method for anyone who is planning a Super Bowl party and is having other people over to watch the game with them.
Users watching the game through the app will reportedly be able to watch from six different viewpoints within the virtual suite and FOX is also going to be showcasing a series of highlights throughout the entire game. There will be a total of 20 highlights which FOX plans to show and will be what they feel are the most exciting of the game. The FOX Sports VR app was initially launched during September of last year so it hasn’t been out long, which sort of makes this their first major event to be shown in virtual reality through the app with FOX partnering with LiveLike to make things happen. If you’re new to FOX Sports VR you can grab the free app download from the Play Store button below.
