Developer TinyCo and Fox Interactive announced Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, another mobile based on the popular animated series created by Matt Groening. Groening and Futurama’s former executive producer David X. Cohen are both collaborating with TinyCo to add their original content to the upcoming game, while Rough Draft Studios, the animation studio that worked on the original series is also involved in the project. Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be launching this spring and owners of Android devices can already pre-register to be notified when the game is released by following the Google Play Store link below.
While TinyCo and Fox Interactive have yet to reveal any concrete details about the game, Groening did say that Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will provide players with the opportunity to “jab the [Futurama] characters in the face.” It remains to be seen whether that implies the game will have an action component of sorts or whether it’ll be a quest simulator like Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff. The latter was also developed by TinyCo who previously worked on Marvel: Avengers Academy, so it seems like this mobile developer is gradually specializing in making interactive spinoffs of popular animated series.
The announcement of Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow comes almost exactly a year after Futurama: Game of Drones appeared on the Google Play Store. The Futurama-themed “match three” game was developed by an entirely different studio, but it also featured plenty of unique content and humor written by Groening and Cohen, so it’s reasonable to presume that Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow won’t disappoint fans of the series in terms of authenticity. Furthermore, given TinyCo’s existing portfolio, the upcoming Futurama mobile game will likely be released as a free-to-play title with optional in-app purchases designed to speed up player progress. In any case, more information on the game is bound to follow soon as Fox Interactive promised to unveil new details about its upcoming title in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can check out the first promotional art for Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow in the gallery below or pre-register for the game by visiting the Google Play Store.
