Huawei Shares EMUI 5.1 Teaser, Launching At MWC 2017

Huawei is planning to release Emotion UI (EMUI) 5.1 at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), the company more or less confirmed that via an official teaser. New variant of the company’s Android skin will be unveiled along with their new flagship smartphones, the Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus, and the two devices will almost certainly ship with EMUI 5.1 pre-installed on top of Android Nougat, as even EMUI 5.0 is based on Android Nougat. EMUI 5.0 is based on Android 7.0 Nougat, so the company’s new variant of EMUI, EMUI 5.1, could come installed on top of Android 7.1 Nougat, it makes sense, though nothing has been confirmed just yet.

If you take a look at the provided image, which is Huawei’s official teaser, you’ll see that the number “1” is covered, well, half of it is, but it’s still quite obvious we’re looking at EMUI 5.1 here. This image also shares the date of the launch, February 26th, which is also the launch date of the Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus in Barcelona. Emotion UI 5.0 actually made Huawei’s Android skin more stock than ever, it changed quite a few design elements compared to Emotion UI 4.1, and it even introduced a ton of new features. Most of those features are actually Google’s Android Nougat features incorporated into Emotion UI, like the expandable notification shade, for example. It remains to be seen what will Huawei add to EMUI once they release v5.1, but luckily we won’t have to wait for long, this event is only three days away at this point.

The Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus will be Huawei’s new flagship smartphones, and not only will they ship with Android Nougat and EMUI 5.1, but will also pack in some really nice specs, and the ‘Plus’ variant is also rumored to sport a curved display. These two phones will be fueled by the Kirin 960 64-bit octa-core SoC, which is the same processor that is fueling the Huawei Mate 9, and it is manufactured by Huawei. These two phones will also ship with two rear-facing cameras, and Leica’s lenses will be placed on top of them, as they were on the Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus as well.
