Medical device manufacturer Fisher Wallace Labs recently debuted Kortex, a VR headset accessory designed for sleep and stress management. The device was meant to be attached to the back of a strap of your VR headset of choice and help you relax by stimulating your brain to produce serotonin, a neurotransmitter that’s a key component of the serum that regulates a person’s vascular tone. This functionality is what allows the device to lower the stress hormone cortisol produced by the adrenal gland. While it’s primarily designed to be used with a virtual reality headset, the Kortex can also operate independently, its creators claim.
Fisher Wallace Labs say that their invention is the most advanced wearable for managing sleep and stress levels ever created. The device is intended to be used for approximately 20 minutes per day. Regular sessions with the Kortex will supposedly help reduce your average stress levels and even help you sleep better. The device is powered by the same technology that was used to create the Fisher Wallace Stimulator, Fisher Wallace Labs’ first wearable designed to help people deal with depression, insomnia, and anxiety. The original product was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is labeled as a legitimate medical device, which gives more credence to the Kortex and its effectiveness.
Fisher Wallace Labs is currently in the process of crowdfunding the Kortex on Indiegogo. The campaign already raised over $43,000, or 58 percent of the company’s initial funding goal of $75,000. Seeing how the New York City-based medical device maker opted for a fixed crowdfunding goal, the Kortex won’t be commercialized unless it manages to raise the aforementioned sum. However, given how the campaign has only been live for four days, there’s a good chance that this curious accessory will hit the market in the near future. You can pre-order the device through Indiegogo by pledging as little as $299. In addition to the Kortex kit, this pledge will also net you Land’s End, a relaxing VR game that originally hit the market back in late 2015. The device is slated to be released this July.
