Today in Barcelona, Huawei announced two new smartwatches that are running on Android Wear 2.0. There is the Huawei Watch 2 which is a more sporty version that also tracks your activity levels throughout the day, and then the more classy looking Huawei Watch 2 Classic. Both of which will be on sale next month in some European countries and will head to more countries in Europe, Asia and North America in April. Currently, there’s no pricing available outside of Europe, but inside Europe the Huawei Watch 2 will be going for €329.
When it comes to specs, the Huawei Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic are basically what you expected. They both feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED 390×390 resolution display and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. It’s running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 Wear processor, which is a chipset that is made specifically for wearables, and that is paired with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. It also is rated at IP68 for dust and water resistance, along with having all of the usual sensors like the accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, heart rate sensor, ambient light sensor and a geomagnetic sensor.
Where the two watches differ is in their design, mostly. The Huawei Watch 2 is meant for those that are a bit more active, in fact that is a big selling point for this watch from Huawei. The company has added their own workout app onto the watch, which allows you to track your workout, no matter if you’re running, walking, on the elliptical or even doing some weight training. The app allows you to get real-time guidance on your training and see exactly how hard you are going in your workout.
Now the Huawei Watch 2 Classic looks a bit more like a traditional smartwatch, but it has definitely changed from the original model that was announced back in 2015. This smartwatch is not available with 4G LTE connectivity, while the standard Huawei Watch 2 is. It does still track your workouts like the Huawei Watch 2, but it’s not the major selling point here. This one is more about the looks, which is important to a lot of people.
Huawei is making their new smartwatches available in a slew of new countries this time around. The US will see it in April, but keep in mind that pricing has not yet been announced for the US just yet, only European pricing has been announced.
