Kyocera is known for putting out some rather rugged smartphones, and also some rather interesting ones. The Kyocera Rafre is one of those more interesting smartphones from the Japanese company. This is a smartphone that you can literally wash with soap and water. That’s a good feature to have, especially if your kid gets a hold of your smartphone, and gets it all grimy and stuff. Instead of just wiping it down, you can stick it in the sink and wash it like it was an actual dish.
This smartphone is offered up in three colors, and they are colors we don’t typically see out of smartphones. There’s the pale pink, clear white and then light blue. It features a 5-inch HD TFT LCD display, powered by an unnamed processor along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Kyocera does have a micro SD card slot available on this smartphone, for expanding storage. There’s a 3000mAh battery powering this device along with Android 7.0 Nougat on-board. Since this smartphone is only being sold in Japan, there is also a built-in antenna for watching TV while in Japan. This is a popular feature among many Asian countries, like South Korea and Japan.
Kyocera also has a few cooking apps pre-installed on the Rafre smartphone. As they see another application for this device as using it in the kitchen while you are cooking. Seeing as you won’t need to worry about keeping flour, or other ingredients off of your phone, you can actually pick it up and follow the recipe you’re using a bit more closely. They also do have a hands-free calling feature, so you can answer the phone without touching the device. Making it much easier to answer the phone without getting it dirty, or needing to touch it really. The Kyocera Rafre is definitely an interesting smartphone, it’s unclear how popular this phone actually is, seeing as it was only announced in late January, it’s tough to guess the number of sales it has had. But there are no plans to bring it outside of Japan – Kyocera’s homeland – just yet.
