NBA VR lets you watch content in your own sports lounge. If you love basketball but don’t exactly have a sports lounge to, well, lounge in while you sit back and enjoy your favorite games, then NBA VR just might be able to fulfill your dreams. Google officially announced the arrival of NBA VR earlier this afternoon touting that it’s compatible with Daydream, and for those that have a Daydream-ready phone and a Daydream View headset, there’s actually quite a lot on offer here that could make for a nice little experience in virtual reality, and at the very least it could be mildly entertaining.
While you won’t be using NBA VR to actually watch full games, at least for now as it’s always a possibility that something like that could come later on, it does allow for the viewing of highlights from games, so you’ll still get to see some pretty amazing plays and perhaps downright awful mistakes from past games, all while sitting from the comfort of your own massive and comfortable virtual couch, or whatever piece of furniture you imagine yourself sitting on when using this app.
In addition to viewing highlights, NBA VR also allows users to “hang out” with NBA legends as they’ll be able to watch House of Legends, which is the first original VR series from the NBA. Today is also the very first episode of this new series with more to come, and although this is the first original VR series there’s all likelihood that there could be more added into the app eventually. Google says that new episodes will come out for the app on a regular basis with some of the upcoming episode featuring Chauncey Billups and Baron Davis, while the first episode features Robert Horry. Episodes will include discussions about the NBA as well as personal highlights and memorable moments from the career of the players who are being featured in a given episode, as well as discussions on pop culture and various other topics. The NBA VR app is free and doesn’t require any sort of subscription fee to enjoy it, so if you have the phone and the headset to support it, you can dive right in at your convenience.
