The next wave of Oculus Rift games will start with Rock Band VR, the Head of Content at Oculus, Jason Rubin announced on Monday. Rock Band VR will be hitting the market on March 23 and can already be pre-ordered along with a Fender Stratocaster wireless guitar that can be used to play the game, Oculus confirmed. The bundle is limited in quantity, priced at $69.99, and will start shipping on the same day the game is released. The VR version of Rock Band was apparently designed to simulate the feeling of playing in front of actual crowds and will feature all of the classic game modes, as well as some surprises, Oculus said. Rock Band VR will be sold exclusively on the Oculus Store, but a compatible Rock Band 4 guitar for either the PS4 or Xbox One is required to play the game.
Rubin said that Rock Band VR is just the start of “months of high-profile rollouts” for the Oculus Rift, and another game that’s launching shortly after is Landfall, a third-person shooter with strategy elements which will allow players to fight for the Earth and its resources after a devastating flood. While Landfall is a VR game, it was designed to be played with a traditional controller.
The second promising Oculus Rift game that’s coming out this spring is Arktika.1, a first-person shooter made by Metro developers 4A Games. This FPS will pit you against a wide variety of terrible creatures not unlike those from the Metro series and the entire game was designed to be played using Touch controllers.
Another upcoming Touch-focused game for the Oculus Rift is Lone Echo, a sci-fi adventure whose trailer looks like an interactive version of the movie Gravity. Apart from an intense single player campaign, Lone Echo is also said to feature a multiplayer component.
If shooting robots isn’t your cup of tea, you may be interested in Wilson’s Heart, a noir adventure set in a mental asylum designed to challenge both your wits and sanity. The most ambitious project of studio Twisted Pixel to date is set to be released on the Oculus Rift in the coming months.
The last promising game that’s hitting the Oculus Store in the near future is Robo Recall, an action-packed shooter developed by Epic Games, the company that made the Unreal Engine and a number of high-profile series like Gears of War.
