On Wednesday, Google finally launched Android Wear 2.0, the largest update to the platform since it launched in 2014. Many of the current Android Wear smartwatches are getting the update, including the Polar M600. Now the company is also confirming that not only will their smartwatch get the update soon, but it’ll also get a few more goodies, like better battery life. Polar says that the M600 will now last around 36 hours. Likely not a huge improvement for most people, seeing as it’s not two full days, most users will charge nightly anyways.
The Polar M600 is the only Android Wear smartwatch that can track your swimming and other under water exercises. This is the best Android Wear smartwatch for fitness tracking, and that’s largely because Polar is already great at creating fitness trackers and smartwatches, so it makes plenty of sense. With Android Wear 2.0, you’ll get the Google Assistant on your wrist, as well as Android Pay built into the watch. However, the Polar M600 does not have NFC connectivity, so Android Pay won’t be available on the Polar M600, but it will be available on newer smartwatches. The update also allows users to download apps straight from the Google Play Store on their wrist, instead of downloading it on their phone and then using it on their smartwatch. Additionally, Polar is bringing more languages to the M600, these include Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Polar has not confirmed when the update will be available for the M600, other than “soon”. Reports have stated that the update will be heading out on February 15th, so we could see it available for the M600 around then. If you haven’t picked up the Polar M600 yet, you can still grab one for $329.95. It’s one of the more expensive Android Wear smartwatches, but this is a really good fitness tracking smartwatch, far better than most of the others on the market. You can pick up different straps for the Polar M600 for about $29.95 each, unfortunately, it doesn’t use traditional watch straps. The band is a silicon one, so it’s not as nice looking as the ones available for the Moto 360, Fossil Q Founder and others.
