The Huawei VTR-L09, which is largely believed to be the P10, has arrived at Geekbench and has been benchmarked. The listing outs the fact that it is sporting an octa-core processor (likely the Kirin 960, which is what is in the Huawei Mate 9 currently), along with 4GB of RAM. There’s not much else shared in this listing, as far as specs go, for the P10, but it does show that it is running Android 7.0 Nougat, and not Android 7.1. Those that might be interested in the scores that the VTR-L09 got on Geekbench will see that it scored a 1884 in the single-core test and a 5964 in the multi-score test. That puts it right on par with other flagships that came out in the second-half of 2016 and early 2017.
Huawei is expected to release a few different models of the Huawei P10, with different specs. There was a retail listing earlier this week which showed a P10 variant with as much as 8GB of RAM. Now it’s possible that variant might be marketed as a Tango and/or Daydream device, similar to the ASUS ZenFone AR, but still interesting nonetheless. Additionally, the P10 is expected to sport a full HD display still. Which is a bit disappointing for those that were hoping for a higher-resolution display, but it does mean that the device will have pretty good battery life, depending on the size of the battery that makes its way into the device.
Mobile World Congress takes place later this month in Barcelona and it’s largely expected that the P10 and other variants (like the P10 Lite, P10 Plus) will make their debut there. In fact, Huawei has already basically confirmed that there will be a P10 launch in Barcelona in a couple of short weeks. Huawei has typically announced their P-series smartphones at a separate event in London around April. So this would move up their announcement and launch of the P10. And that could possibly be due to the fact that Samsung won’t be launching the Galaxy S8 there this year, and launching it in April, instead. So it’s a way for Huawei to get plenty of attention and even beat Samsung to market. That seems to be a popular strategy this year.
