Rumor: Moto G5 Available To Buy Shortly After MWC 2017

According to the latest information coming in, a UK retailer (later identified as Clove) will have the new Moto G5 in stock shortly after its MWC 2017 launch. The Tweet from known tipster Roland Quandt shows part of a screenshot or printed listing with its stock number, MOT-G5, with an added ‘L’ for the Gold model and an added ‘R’ for the Grey model, each with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. No prices are listed, but it does indicate “First stock due mid-March,” which is not long after MWC 2017 (February 27th – March 2nd).

Rumors and leaks of the Moto G5 and G5 Plus have been circulating for the past month or so – making their stop at the FCC, hinting about what CPU will be used, the size of the display, and when it might actually be available for purchase. Previously, there had been a sighting at a retailer in Brazil and now this most current leak shows it available in mid-March on Clove’s website. Information so far indicates the Moto G5 will sport a 5.0-inch IPS LCD Full HD resolution display with 1920 x 1080 pixels, giving it a density of 441 pixels-per-inch (PPI). It could be packing a Snapdragon 430 (MSM8937) octa-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz with an Adreno 505 GPU for its graphics. The Moto G5 will be running Android 7.0 (Nougat) out of the box. Some rumors have suggested it could pack 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage, although the current tweet points more towards 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Just as easily, both combinations could be on offer or varying by region. The primary camera is a 13-megapixel option with an aperture of f/2.0, autofocus, and dual-tone LED flash. The front-facing camera (FFC) is 5-megapixels with an aperture of f/2.2, and it sports auto-HDR. A 3,000 mAh battery should power the device and should include Moto’s Turbo charge capabilities.

It is expected to come with all the usual suspects including WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, FM Radio, and a microUSB v2.0 port for charging and data transfer. Not confirmed, but it should have a fingerprint sensor on the front as well. With NFC on board, the Moto G5 will be able to handle mobile payments, including Android Pay. Indications are that it will be available in Black or White, although the current tweet indicates Gold and Grey color options.
