The Samsung Chromebook Plus is now available for purchase from the Google Store for $449. Everyone who purchases Samsung’s new Chromebook will also be awarded $20 of Google Play Store credit, the listing reveals. That offer is likely a limited one, but it remains to be seen for how long will the Google Store incentivize the purchase of the Samsung Chromebook Plus with extra Google Play Store credit.
While the Samsung Chromebook Plus isn’t the first Chromebook developed by the South Korean tech giant, the laptop and the Samsung Chromebook Pro are the first two Chrome OS-powered devices that Samsung designed in collaboration with Google. Both computers also mark Samsung’s first foray into all-metal Chromebooks and generally look like premium products. The Chromebook Plus is equipped with a 12.3-inch display protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 and boasting a resolution of 2,400 by 1,600 pixels. The laptop is powered by a hexa-core ARM processor called OP1 and 4GB of RAM, in addition to offering 32GB of internal storage. The storage space of the Chromebook Plus can be expanded via a microSD card slot. Speaking of ports, Samsung’s premium Chromebook features two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device was designed as a convertible that can adapt to many needs and also ships with Samsung’s S Pen stylus that’s neatly tucked away in its silo. Last but not last, the Chromebook Plus ships with support for Android apps out of the box and is allegedly even better at running them than the more expensive Chromebook Pro that’s powered by an Intel-made chipset.
Overall, the Chromebook Plus seems like a device designed for more demanding users that prefer using Chrome OS. As such, it doesn’t seem like it has a huge target audience, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great device.
