It would seem that a bug has been found by Google in the final stages of testing the Android Wear 2.0 update, causing a delay to the rolling out of the platform update to a number of devices. This information comes by way of official comments made by Google to Wareable where the admittance of the bug was confirmed, as well as the delaying of the rolling out of the update. However, Google did not provide any firm details on when the update will likely resume again and therefore, there are no details at present on when any of the Android Wear smartwatches (that have yet to receive the update) will actually receive the update.
Interestingly, this relates back to the news that came through yesterday on a number of smartwatches that are now in the process of receiving the update. While Google has yet to confirm the basis of the bug, it seems the bug does not affect those three smartwatches. So they are still on track to receive the update to Android Wear 2.0, but that seems to be it. The statement from Google explains that “for other devices, the update is currently being delayed due to a bug found in final testing.” So for those who own either the Fossil Q Founder, the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10, or the Tag Heuer Connected, your Android Wear 2.0 update rollout is proceeding as normal. For everyone else, Google “will push the update to the remaining devices as soon as the issue is resolved.”
Of course, for those keeping track, this is not actually the first time that Android Wear 2.0 has been the subject of a delay. While the updated smartwatch platform was announced and somewhat released in early February, it had been expected to originally come through in the closing months of 2016. Although, it quickly became clear back in 2016, that was not going to happen with Google officially confirming the delay of the launch of Android Wear 2.0 until 2017. So for those still waiting on the update, while this might be a little frustrating, is unlikely to be all that surprising anymore.
