It seems a beta version of the HBO NOW Android app is now available through the Google Play Store. Or at least, the first steps in making a beta version of the app available. As at present, there seems to be no discernible difference between the beta listing and the non-beta listing. Which means at the moment there is very little point in actually joining the beta right now. Although, if you would like to, then you can by heading through the link below.
However, in spite of the beta listing seemingly the same listing as the non-beta version, this could change at any time and if you are someone who already uses the HBO NOW app and would like to be at the forefront (in terms of new features, updates, and so on), then it still might be worth your while joining the beta and downloading the beta version. As once an update does become available, you will be one of the first to receive it.
For those new to this app, this is the non-subscriber version of the app and is generally aimed at those who want access to HBO’s catalog but without having to subscribe via one of the traditional methods of TV subscriptions. In short, this is the ‘cord cutters’ version. Which does mean that it could be an ideal testing ground for a beta, as it will be able to offer new features and updates to exactly the consumers who are specifically interested in HBO content. In contrast to those who happen to have HBO as part of their bundled TV subscription and simply have the HBO GO app installed anyways. Likewise, this also does mean that what is probably the majority of HBO customers are unlikely to be able to take advantage of the beta program, as it currently stands. If you have yet to try out HBO NOW and are considering it (as well as considering joining the beta), then it is worth knowing that HBO offers the first month free as part of a trial period. After which you will be liable for a monthly standalone subscription cost in the region of $14.99.
