The Galaxy S8 lets you adjust the screen resolution according to the latest leak, which shows an image of the option to change it. The Galaxy S8 will reportedly come with a WQHD+ screen and if the leak is legitimate then users will be able to modify their screen resolution and select between HD+, FHD+ and QHD+ with a slider bar that you drag across the screen to choose which resolution you want to use.
While it might be hard for some to fathom why Samsung might want to include this feature for its users, it’s likely that the aim was to give consumers who pick up the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus another way to help save on battery life. While the phones will likely have a decent battery life with the resolution set to its full capacity, the resolution being lower will no doubt help extend it and being able to adjust the resolution on the fly could come in handy if your battery is draining faster than you might have expected.
Saving battery life would seem to be the only purpose for changing the resolution and setting it lower could help the battery life immensely, but as a sort of disclaimer it seems that Samsung has also warned users on the option screen that changing the resolution may end up causing some apps that are currently running in the background to close. What this probably means is that the app will simply close down and would need to be reopened to adjust itself to the new resolution change, and it likely wouldn’t continually affect any future performance of the app. This sort of a feature seems like it would be extremely useful to have, so it’s a wonder why Samsung hasn’t included it in any of their other flagship devices. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus are due to be unveiled next week at Samsung’s Unpacked event, with sales of both devices said to be happening at the end of next month in the U.S. There is still no confirmed release date or price point though, but a recent rumor has suggested that the Galaxy S8 would cost $800, while the Galaxy S8 Plus would cost $880.
