Samsung seems to be having an exceptionally difficult time keeping things under wraps in the lead-up to its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ announcement, with images now having surfaced that show the larger Galaxy S8+ in living color. The photographs in question, purportedly showing a test device, were uploaded to Reddit by user “RuizTX” with claims that a “friend” had taken the pictures after noticing that somebody at his job was using it. However, one fellow Redditor has commented that the device appears to be a prototype – apparently indicated by identifier dots shown on the screen in the pictures – and that may turn out to be true in the end. It isn’t altogether likely that any major changes would be made to such a prototype so close to the handset’s expected March 29 reveal, but the images themselves may not portray the most recent iteration of a test device.
Unfortunately for those who hate fingerprint riddled electronics, the back of the device appears to follow Samsung’s prior designs in that it is encased in glass. However, bearing in mind that the images provide the only real way for a comparison to be made, the now trademark curved edges appear to have been refined. In fact, the overall design of the device seems to be much more focused and streamlined, which may serve to eliminate some of the cause for complaint about past Galaxy devices. Additionally, the camera and associated sensors appear more embedded so that they are more flush with the device.
The larger Galaxy S8+ is expected to have essentially the same internals as the smaller Galaxy S8, with only a few minor exceptions expected such as the now leaked battery differences. If the images are really representative of the final product, it stands to reason that the latter device will look the same but scaled down. At this point, it can be a real chore to keep tabs on all of the leaks circulating about these two additions to Samsung’s insanely popular Galaxy family. It may come as a relief then, that it should only be a further 8 days as of this writing before the company either confirms or dismisses everything from the mounting list of expectations.
