Just about every company that makes a smartphone is in Barcelona this week to show off their latest and greatest products at Mobile World Congress. That includes Hisense. Now on the western side of the world, you probably know Hisense more for their TV’s, they are actually fairly popular in North America. But they do also make smartphones and even some tablets. The majority of them are only officially available in China and parts of Asia, however. And that includes the Hisense A2, which was actually announced last December, and is priced just north of $400 USD.
The Hisense A2 is a rather interesting device, it actually reminds a lot of the YotaPhone 2, which had two displays as well. The Hisense A2 has one main display on the front, and then a e-ink display on the back. Which is handy for using your phone without having to use a whole lot of power. Meaning you can read e-books and such without powering up the main display. Because with books, you don’t really need color. The main display is a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display while the secondary is a 5.2-inch e-ink display. It comes packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There’s a 16-megapixel camera around back with a 5-megapixel camera on the front for taking the all-important selfies.
Unfortunately, there are no plans for expanding the availability of the Hisense A2 at this time, so those that are in Europe and North America will have to just drool over this device. Now it is a somewhat mid-range smartphone, but it does have a ton of storage, which might be a bit surprising. Especially seeing as most flagship smartphones don’t even have this much storage these days. There’s also a somewhat decent sized battery, coming in at about 3090mAh. Which should be enough to keep the device going all day long. It’s a great looking device, as you can see from the images below, hopefully Hisense will start to make their smartphones more widely available in the near future, but as for now, they are Asia-only.
