OnePlus 2 Receives Software Update To OxygenOS 3.5.8

OnePlus is releasing a new software update for the OnePlus 2 today, bringing along the latest Google security patch for the 1st of March and a handful of other bugfixes. The software package is based on Android Marshmallow and bumps the software version from OxygenOS 3.5.6 up to OxygenOS 3.5.8. As usual, the update is being distributed OTA (over-the-air) and the update’s availability will expand gradually to all OnePlus 2 units around the globe in the coming days.

The official changelog for OxygenOS 3.5.8 includes fixes to issues related to the Google Duo application, which seem to cause echo during video calls. Additionally, the update will fix persistent network drop issues as well as data roaming issues in certain countries, and as previously mentioned, the software package is preloaded with Google’s security patch launched by the search engine giant on the 1st of March. The latest update also brings “improved audio compatibility” and lastly, it carries an unspecified number of other, minor general bug fixes. OnePlus further clarifies that the OTA process will be incremental with only a small percentage of OnePlus 2 users receiving the update notification today (March 22), however, the rollout will continue to expand over the next few days. Otherwise and as per the usual case with OTA releases, users can always try and trigger the update process manually from within the settings menu under software details.

The OnePlus 2 was released in August 2015 running OxygenOS 2.0 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It was later updated to OxygenOS 2.2.1, and last year in May the smartphone made the jump to Android Marshmallow via OxygenOS version 3.0. Since its market debut, the OnePlus 2 was succeeded by two newer models, namely the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, but the OnePlus 2 continues to hold its own against various other smartphones of its generation thanks to its generous hardware specifications. The smartphone launched with a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS LCD in tow, along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 System-on-Chip, an Adreno 430 graphics chip, and 3 GB/4 GB of RAM paired with 16 GB or 64 GB of on-board memory. It also sports a fingerprint sensor embedded within the physical home button, and the OnePlus 2 went down in the history books as the first Android smartphone in the world to adopt a USB Type-C reversible connector.
