The OnePlus 3 has just received a rather interesting update, as it brought Google Assistant to the device. Google Assistant is now rolling out to all Android-based smartphones which are running Android 6.0 Marshmallow (or higher), and the update is rolling out to phones via OTA updates to Google Play Services. Considering this, manufacturers don’t need to test the update before it gets rolled out, same goes for carriers, which speeds up the process immensely.
Now, it seems like the OnePlus 3 devices started getting the update, as the source received proof from a user who received such an update on the OnePlus 3. Most of you quite probably know what Google Assistant is, but it’s essentially an evolution of Google Now. Google Assistant was available only on Pixel devices for a while, but that’s not the case any longer, obviously. Users of Google’s Allo app had access to Google Assistant in a way, though, so most of you probably already tried it out in one form or the other. In any case, around 500 million Android-powered smartphones will get Google Assistant at some point, though it will take some time before all of those phones get it. That being said, if you own the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T, it seems like you’re in luck, as the update should land soon if it hasn’t already.
The OnePlus 3 is one of two smartphones OnePlus released last year, the OnePlus 3 arrived first in June, and the OnePlus 3T followed later in the year. Both of these devices are made out of metal, and they look identical on the outside, but the OnePlus 3T is a somewhat more powerful smartphone. This handset not only comes with a more powerful front-facing camera, and a larger battery pack, but it also packs in a more powerful SoC. In addition to all this, the OnePlus 3T also comes with a sapphire glass protection for its main camera, and that’s pretty much it, these two phones are identical in every other way, which is why OnePlus 3T users can expect this update to hit their phones really, really soon, if it hasn’t already.
