The HTC U Ultra Sapphire version is now available for pre-order from the HTC Estore in Taiwan. It is a limited edition version of the original HTC U Ultra and comes with 128GB of internal storage, and the display is a sapphire screen, making it extremely durable against scratches. It is available for pre-order at NT $28,900 ($920 USD) and is currently limited to its home country of Taiwan, and it is unknown whether it will be available in other markets. The HTC U Ultra Sapphire version is available in four colors, blue, black, white and pink. The pre-order period begins today, and will be ending on March 28th.
If you do pre-order the device, you will be receiving a luxury package worth NT $3,000 ($98 USD), and it contains a leather case, a power bank, a key ring and also a fancier packaging for your HTC U Ultra Sapphire version. As mentioned previously, the HTC U Ultra Sapphire version only differs slightly from the original HTC U Ultra. Besides the Sapphire display and the memory configuration, the specs remain identical. This includes a 5.7-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) Super LCD 5 display, which is protected by Sapphire glass, instead of Gorilla Glass 5. The device also comes with a secondary display which HTC calls ‘Dual Display’, and comes with multiple functions. It measures 2.05-inches and packs a resolution of 160 x 1040. Under the hood, 4GB of RAM can be found, alongside 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card.
Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 2.15GHz. For optics, the HTC U Ultra comes with a 12-megapixel HTC UltraPixel 2 camera on its rear coupled with OIS. The front side of the device gets a 16-megapixel camera. Keeping the lights on is a 3,000mAh battery, which is quite small for such a large device. However, it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, allowing users to quickly juice up the battery. Software wise, HTC Sense UI can be found on top of Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The device was announced alongside the original HTC U Ultra, and the Taiwanese firm mentioned that it will be available for purchase in February, which turned out to be false.
