T-Mobile appears to be preparing for the launch of Android 7.0 Nougat on the HTC One M9, as the carrier’s official support page now states that T-Mobile is currently testing the software in conjunction with the aforementioned smartphone. Although no release timeframes have been revealed, testing the software brings the final version closer to the finish line, meaning that, in theory, the update should arrive on the HTC One M9 sooner rather than later.
HTC began rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update on the unlocked HTC One M9 last December. Since then, the update’s availability expanded to include certain carrier variants, including Bell’s in Canada, whose HTC One M9 joined the ranks of Android 7.0 Nougat a couple of months ago in January. In more recent news, T-Mobile is now preparing for the eventual release of Android 7.0 Nougat on the HTC One M9 in the United States, which should introduce new features and breathe more life into HTC’s 2015 flagship. As part of the update, the HTC One M9 should technically enjoy improved battery life thanks to a reworked Doze Mode, performance improvements, bundled notifications, improved quick toggles in the notification shade, and better data management through a new Data Saver mode. Android 7.0 Nougat also adds new features including quicker multi-tasking, Multi-Window mode allowing users to run two applications simultaneously on the same screen, and comes with a reworked user interface – although in HTC’s case, most of the UI changes will be part of the company’s proprietary Sense user interface.
The HTC One M9 was released in March 2015 boasting a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 System-on-Chip, an Adreno 430 graphics chip, 3 GB of RAM, and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The device was then updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow throughout the first half of 2016, and given the fact that the HTC One M9 is now 24 months old, it’s likely that Android 7.0 Nougat will be the final major software update it will receive before it will no longer be officially supported. Hopefully, T-Mobile will successfully test the update and commence the OTA (over-the-air) release soon and without a hitch.
