We knew that HTC was eventually releasing their new flagship, the HTC U Ultra, in Canada, but as late as January 25th of this year they have mentioned that they were focusing on the US release and would address the Canada release at a later date. Today, HTC suddenly started selling the new HTC U Ultra on their Canadian website without any fanfare and unlocked for a whopping $999. It is available in Sapphire Blue, Ice White, and Brilliant Black. When you purchase a new HTC U Ultra, you can have the privilege of purchasing a pair of JBL Aware C earphones, which list at $270 for $135 CAD which is half the normal price. You also get a complimentary HTC UH OH Protection plan that will give you a free one-time replacement for a broken screen or water damage. Freedom Mobile users, please take note that the HTC U Ultra does not offer support for LTE Band 66, so you will not be able to use LTE speeds on your network.
The HTC U Ultra comes with a 5.7-inch Quad HD primary display with 513 pixels-per-inch (PPI), and steals a page from the LG V20 and adds a smaller secondary display for notifications. It packs a Qualcomm 821 quad-core display clocked at 2.15GHz, with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 64GB of expandable internal memory via microSD card. The primary camera is a 12MP that uses UltraPixel 2 with PDAF and Laser Autofocus, OIS, an f/1.8 aperture, dual-tone LED flash and a sapphire lens. There is a 16MP front-facing camera (FFC) with f/2.0 aperture and auto-selfie capabilities for social media selfies and video chatting. The U Ultra uses the newer BoomSound HiFi for sound, and it sports a front-mounted fingerprint sensor and has NFC for mobile purchases, including Android Pay, where available.
The HTC U Ultra measures in at 162.41 x 79.79 x 7.99mm and weighs in at 170 grams. In the box, you get an HTC Rapid Charger 3.0, USB Type-C Cable, and HTC Clear Case to show off your glossy, colorful back without the fingerprints, a dust cloth, and a SIM Tool. You also get a pair of HTC USonic Adaptive Earphones that you can adjust to your ears – please note there is no 3.5mm earphone jack, and you must plug in your earphones into the Type-C port via an adapter. It is running Android 7.0 with HTC Sense with its Sense Companion, which is HTC’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) program.
