Google has released a new blog posting detailing how Google Home, and by association, the Google Assistant, can now help with your next cooking escapade. There are many step-by-step recipes available on the internet and from some of the most well-known sites, including Bon Appetit, the Food Network, and even the New York Times. If you can follow the easy steps in each recipe, it can make cooking a whole lot easier and Google wants you to know that the Google Assistant and Google Home can give you a helping hand in the kitchen, freeing up your hands to do the actual work – as it is gaining access to over 5 million recipes.
Obviously, the first decision is to pick a recipe that you want to try by going to Google Search or use Google Assistant to track down that special recipe. Once you decide on the recipe, select the “Send to Google Home” button to save the recipe for when you get home. Once you are in the kitchen you simple say, “Ok Google start cooking” or “Ok Google, start recipe.” In order to follow the step-by-step recipe, you should first gather up your ingredients so they are in easy reach and you are ready to begin. No need to worry if you get behind, just say “Ok Google, repeat” or “Ok Google, what was step 3?” Google Home will never tire of repeating the steps, so no need to be shy. If a recipe calls for 4 tablespoons and you only have a measuring cup, no need to panic as Google Home will do the conversion for you – all you need to do is ask. Google Home will even set a timer for you and alert you when your masterpiece is ready.
This new feature will be out in the next week, so if you don’t have it right away, it will arrive in due course. There is no setup necessary to use the recipe feature, just tell Google Home to start the recipe. This is just another way that Google is working on making Google Home indispensable as they build out their ecosystem. And while Google Home will not pour you a glass of wine, it will play some nice music in the background, while you are cooking dinner.
