The unannounced Alcatel Idol 5S is reaching the headlines once again thanks to a first real-life photo showcasing the device (left) alongside one of its older siblings – the Alcatel Idol 4 (right). The image reveals the smartphone’s exterior design as seen from the front, and in overall, it appears that both the Alcatel Idol 5S and the Alcatel Idol 4 share some external similarities.
The Alcatel Idol 5S appears to borrow many design cues from last year’s generation of Alcatel-branded devices, including a couple of speaker grilles at the top and bottom edges of its metallic frame. In fact, save for the fact that the upcoming model’s speaker grills have fewer and larger fine-drilled holes, there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference between the two models compared side-by-side. However, on closer inspection, it would also appear that the Alcatel Idol 5S carries its antenna bands in a different manner than the Alcatel Idol 4, as they seem to wrap around the left and right edges of the metal frame surrounding the device, as opposed to the top and bottom edges as seen on its predecessor. Having said that, the Alcatel Idol 5S could present more notable differences in design when viewed from the back, but sadly, with this being the only image of the phone leaked so far, it’s currently impossible to tell just how much the upcoming model will differ from the older one.
As for the Alcatel Idol 5S’ hardware specifications, the smartphone has been previously spotted on a couple of benchmarking websites including GFXBench and Geekbench, where it’s been listed along with the MediaTek Helio P20 system-on-chip (SoC) housing eight CPU cores clocked at 1.69GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. The rumored size of its display seems to be further corroborated by the direct side-by-side comparison with last year’s Alcatel Idol 4, which carries a similar 5.2-inch panel with a Full HD resolution. There’s currently no official word regarding the Alcatel Idol 5s’ launch schedule, but it’s worth noting that last year’s Alcatel Idol 4 and Idol 4S were launched in June and July, respectively, following their official unveiling in early 2016.
