LG Intros Smart Security Wireless Camera LHC5200WI For $199

LG Electronics is launching a new security camera in partnership with ADT Security Services, called the LG Smart Security Wireless Camera LHC5200WI. The product is available for the suggested retail price of $199.99 and can be paired with the LG Smart Security smartphone application or alternatively with ADT’s security services that are available for a monthly subscription fee. The security camera is compatible with most devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher and iOS 8.1 or higher, and can also be accessed through a browser on Windows OS and macOS personal computers.

Spec-wise, the LG Smart Security Wireless Camera is equipped with a 5-megapixel sensor boasting a 130-degree field of view. The unit can be used in daylight as well as in the dark by removing the IR (infrared) cut-filter during night time, and has a streaming resolution of up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, taking advantage of H.264 video compression. Additionally, the LG Smart Security Wireless Camera can be paired with ADT Canopy’s cloud-recording service for $9.99 per month, allowing users to review up to seven days of 1080p video footage with motion and audible detection alerts. Furthermore, prospective buyers can also sign up for ADT’s professional security monitoring services for $19.99 per month, which will rapidly dispatch emergency personnel when the 93-decibel LG Smart Security alarm is triggered. ADT Security Services is a US-based company providing security, fire protection, and monitoring services in 35 countries around the globe, and the partnership it struck with LG is its latest effort to expand the scope of its service portfolio.

As far as the product’s exterior design is concerned, the LG Smart Security Wireless Camera is extremely similar to the LG Smart Security Hub unveiled last year at CES 2016. It has the same wedge shape, measures five inches in height, and it’s available only in black. Other details worth mentioning include humidity, temperature, and tampering sensors, a built-in speaker and microphone, two-way half-duplex audio, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Z-Wave Plus connectivity, as well as support for Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth Low Energy technology. Lastly, the product weighs 0.8 lbs. (362 grams), draws energy from a 5V adapter through a microUSB connector, and can operate at temperatures as low as zero degrees Fahrenheit (-17 Celsius).
