Nokia 6 users are now receiving updates, bringing Android Nougat version 7.1.1 and April 2017 security patch to the smartphones. The update, which has the build number 00CN_3_170, is a quite hefty update at 369 MB, so downloading the update through Wi-Fi is recommended. The update contains the Android 7.1.1 software update, which adds some new features like additional emojis, directly sending GIFs from the smartphone keyboard to supported apps, and app shortcuts direct from the home screen. This update makes Nokia 6 one of the few smartphones that currently run Android 7.1.1. Nokia 6 users will also experience improved background apps management and power saving features once they download the update. There will also be improvements in the connectivity features of Nokia 6, with the update adding support for 4G/3G dual-SIM dual-standby and improvements on the Nokia USB driver. Along with these new features and improvements is the installation of April 2017 security patch for Nokia 6, the latest security patch available from Google.
The update, which includes the latest security patch and an OS update, shows HMD Global’s commitment to supporting the smartphones it manufactures once they are released. HMD Global, the company producing the Nokia-branded smartphones, highlighted its commitment to monthly updates when it was asked by an interested consumer regarding its software update timeline through its official Twitter account. Owners of Nokia smartphones can expect updates each month, securing the smartphones against any recently discovered vulnerabilities in the Android operating system as well as updating the smartphones to support the latest features of the Android OS.
For those interested in the specifications of Nokia 6, the smartphone sports a 5.5 inch full HD (1920 x 1080) display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, which is comprised of a 64-bit octa-core chip and Adreno 505 GPU. Nokia 6 is available with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, with an option to expand the storage using a microSD card. The device is powered by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for quick top-ups of the internal battery. Nokia 6, at this point, is currently available only in China and other select markets. However, HMD Global has committed to launching not only the Nokia 6 but also its other smartphones Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 simultaneously in 120 markets in the 2nd quarter of 2017.
