The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus started making its way into owners hands last week, with the official launch happening last Friday in many of their key markets. And now some users are noticing that they don’t have the quick access shortcut for the camera on their device, while some do have it. Basically, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have the ability to double press the power button to launch the camera app without unlocking the device, this isn’t new for the Galaxy S8 though. But for some regions, that option isn’t there, it’s nowhere to be found on the phone, one of those areas is India. It’s currently unclear why this is the case, and Samsung has not yet mentioned why.
Since Samsung hasn’t confirmed this, it’s hard to tell whether this omission is on purpose or not, and since it’s not available in some regions and not all, it seems to be a bug that Samsung may fix in an upcoming software update. Of course, this bug isn’t as big of a deal as the DQA error update that is being sent out right now (that issue actually made the device almost impossible to use). It’s possible that Samsung had to disable this quick access shortcut in some regions due to patents and such, which is the case with the fingerprint sensors on Sony smartphones in the US. Hopefully Samsung will let everyone know what’s going on in the very near future.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have been receiving rave reviews since they launched last week, and customers are mostly happy with the device. Samsung actually announced that pre-orders for these two smartphones were 30% higher than the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones that were released last year. That’s pretty incredible considering the entire Galaxy Note 7 debacle. It shows that plenty of customers stuck around for Samsung, and many others were excited by the minimal bezel approach on these two new smartphones. Hopefully the good news will keep on rolling for Samsung with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus in the coming weeks.
