Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus started rolling out in many key markets last week, and many users are beginning to notice that some displays are suffering from a red tint. It’s something that most users won’t notice, but some that use different smartphones will definitely see. Samsung has said that it’s not a defect of the display, and they have already begun sending out a software update to address the issue, at least in South Korea.
The update doesn’t just fix the red tint on your device, since not every Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus suffers from this issue, Samsung has opted to allow users to change the color of the edges of the display, using a red, green and blue slider. So you can adjust the tint yourself. As some people may like to have that red tint, or even a blue tint, it’ll make everyone happy. Currently this is only rolling out in South Korea to the G950N and G955N models, which are the Exynos variants. Samsung hasn’t said when or if they will roll this out to other countries, but it is pretty likely.
Since the two devices launched last week, there have been a few urgent updates sent out to both devices. One was to fix a force closing error that was plaguing many users. That luckily, Samsung was on top of and got it fixed right away. This issue is a bit tougher, but Samsung is working on it, and since it is an actual OTA, they will need to get it certified by each of the US carriers, and that could take a few weeks to be done and rolled out to users. Fortunately this isn’t an issue that keeps users from using their devices. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are using pretty interesting displays. They are curved displays, but unlike other Samsung smartphones, they aren’t using a 16:9 aspect ratio, instead, they are taller and have a 18.5:9 aspect ratio, which means these are first generation displays, and Samsung is running into a few issues with them, and that’s understandable. At least they are quick to fix things here.
