Stephen Colbert's Galaxy S8 Ad Still Mocks Galaxy Note 7

Famous comedian and television host Stephen Colbert launched a new ad for the Samsung Galaxy S8 as part of the Tuesday episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The minute-long video that made its way to YouTube in the meantime features some attractive shots of Samsung’s latest Android flagship but also doesn’t fail to mock the Galaxy Note 7 debacle that resulted in the discontinuation of the company’s 2016 phablet following numerous reports of units catching fire and exploding. The entire skit was designed as yet another dig at the Galaxy Note 7 and likely wasn’t approved by the South Korean tech giant who already invested a massive amount of resources into marketing the quality assurance practices that were employed during the design and manufacturing of the Galaxy S8 lineup, assuring consumers that the new high-end Android phones are perfectly safe.

Colbert claims that Samsung designers put a lot of work into creating a device that’s beautiful, powerful, and won’t make customers fear their “head [will] melt,” all while showing a well-known scene from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. The entire skit aired during the latest episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert can be viewed beneath this writing. This isn’t the first time that the 52-year-old made fun of the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, as Colbert released another skit back in October that was parodying the return procedure for Samsung’s defective phablet.

Given Colbert’s popularity, none of these parodies will likely help Samsung’s efforts to move on from its last year’s misfortunes, though the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are still unlikely to suffer due to the fact that some comedians are parodying the latest addition to the Galaxy Note family. Having officially released last Friday following months of anticipation and dozens of leaks, Samsung’s new pair of Android flagships has enjoyed an extremely positive response from both critics and consumers alike and is expected to become a massive commercial success that will significantly boost the company’s revenue over the course of this year. An update on the commercial performance of the Galaxy S8 lineup is expected to follow in the coming months.
