ARM Launches Cortex A75 and A55 CPUs, Mali-G72 GPU

ARM has recently unveiled its newest CPU and GPU products, all of which are designed to boost artificial intelligence performance. The newest additions to the company’s product lineup include the ARM Cortex A75 and ARM Cortex A55 CPUs, as well as the Mali-G72 GPU. The ARM Cortex A75 CPU is a high-performance solution which succeeds the current-generation ARM Cortex A73 CPU, the company said, adding that the processor is designed to deliver a performance increase of up to 20 percent when compared with a similarly clocked ARM Cortex A73. A portion of the latest chip’s performance improvements originates from its enhanced integer performance. The chip company also designed the processor to include features that support machine learning and artificial intelligence use cases, allowing ARM to target more markets and devices beyond smartphones and tablets.

ARM has also launched the successor to its widely popular and power-efficient ARM Cortex A53. Dubbed as the ARM Cortex A55 CPU, the newest high-efficiency chip from the British design firm is up to 15 percent more efficient when compared to its predecessor clocked at the same frequency. The company also claims that the new high-efficient chip will deliver sustained performance for a longer period of time than the previous model. Improving sustained performance results in a less sluggish user experience related to the decreased instances of throttling. Additional features are also included in the new CPU due to its support for the ARMv8.2 architecture. Meanwhile, a common feature of both the ARM Cortex A55 and ARM Cortex A75 CPUs is the improved scaling. The improved scalability is made possible by DynamiQ, a major revision of the widely used big.LITTLE technology. One of the major differences between DyamiQ and big.LITTLE designs is that in the former, CPUs of different designs can now be placed in the same cluster. By improving scalability, ARM managed to deliver increased peak and sustained performance which was not possible with the previous implementations of big.LITTLE technology, the company said.

On the graphics front, ARM also launched the Mali-G72 GPU. The firm claims that its newest GPU can provide as much as 40-percent better device performance compared to its predecessor, the Mali-G71. The chip company is also promising an improvement in the energy efficiency of its GPUs, with the newest iteration claiming a 25-percent improvement in this regard. It may take a while before ARM’s newest offerings are found inside a device that is available to the general public. Based on ARM’s estimation, products equipped with the company’s latest CPU and GPU designs will only be released next year.
